FAQs
How many attempts do I get at a standards check?
The DVSA will normally monitor your performance over a series of Standards Checks rather than making decisions based on a single assessment. However, if your performance consistently falls below the required standard, you could ultimately face removal from the ADI Register. Seeking professional Standards Check training and support early can significantly improve your chances of achieving a successful outcome.
Can you help if I have failed or have a Grade B?
Yes. Many instructors contact us who want or need to improve their performance before their next Standards Check. Our tailored coaching focuses on the key areas assessed by the DVSA, including lesson planning, risk management, fault analysis and client-centred learning. The aim is to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to achieve a stronger result at your next assessment.
Can you help with Part 3 Test Preparation?
Absolutely. In addition to Standards Check support, we provide comprehensive Part 3 test preparation for trainee driving instructors. Training covers lesson structure, client-centred learning, risk management, coaching techniques and the competencies required to meet the DVSA standard.
How quickly can I prepare for a Standards Check?
The amount of preparation required depends on your current level of experience and the areas that need improvement. Some instructors benefit from a small number of focused sessions, while others may require a more structured programme over several weeks. Following an initial assessment, we will recommend a training plan tailored to your individual needs and timescales.
What happens if I fail my Standards Check?
A disappointing Standards Check result does not necessarily mean the end of your career as a driving instructor. The DVSA will consider your overall performance and may provide opportunities to demonstrate improvement. Early intervention, targeted coaching and a structured development plan can help address weaknesses and improve future assessment outcomes.
