I started training driving instructors because I realised that helping people build a new career was every bit as rewarding as teaching someone to drive. Since then I’ve helped people from all walks of life - from office workers and HGV drivers to retail managers and mechanics - qualify as driving instructors.

I deliberately keep the number of trainees I work with limited. It means I can get to know you, understand how you learn and give you the time and support you need.

When you train with us, you’re not passed from trainer to trainer. The majority of your training is one-to-one with me, and if you have a question or hit a difficult point in your training, you can pick up the phone and speak to me.

You’re a person, not a number – and your training should reflect that.

How Do You Become a Driving Instructor?

Qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor involves three stages:

Part 1 – Theory & Hazard Perception
Develop the knowledge you need and prepare for the ADI theory and hazard perception test.

Part 2 – Driving Ability
Develop your own driving to the high standard expected of a professional driving instructor.

Part 3 – Instructional Ability
Learn how to plan and deliver effective driving lessons, adapt your teaching to different pupils and demonstrate your instructional ability.

We’ll guide you through each stage, helping you understand what is expected and preparing you for the relevant DVSA tests.

Your training can be arranged around your existing work and family commitments, allowing you to prepare for your new career without necessarily having to give up your current one first.

What Happens After You Qualify?

Qualifying is the beginning of your new career, not the end of our support.

Suitable newly qualified instructors may have the opportunity to join the established Geoff Capes Driving School, with access to an existing customer base and continued support.

Prefer to build your own independent driving school? That’s absolutely fine too.

The choice is yours.
